LOAL - LOVE ON A LEASH THERAPY DOG PROGRAM

March of 2004, a group of pet owners in the Somerset area organized and registered with the national organization, Love on a Leash. Since that time, the Somerset Chapter of LOAL has become the fastest growing chapter in the nation! Way to go, Somerset!! |

After testing and being approved as a candidate for therapy pet certification, the dog and handler team are paired with a more experienced team and they perform their 10 hours of volunteer time. The next and final step in certification is the arrival of the Love on a Leash Vest. Here three members receive their vests at Obedience Class graduation. READ - READING ASSISTANCE DOG PROGRAM
A new and exciting aspect of the therapy dog program currently being participated in is the READ Program. In this program dog and handler teams attend elementary schools where children read to the dog. This new program is being embraced by both the dog and handler teams and the elementary school teachers and children.
