Who Are We?

In 1987 a group of area dog fanciers felt the need for more responsible pet ownership and education in the Lake Cumberland area.  There was an interest in conformation showing, obedience training, and community involvement.  The nonprofit Lake Cumberland Kennel Club (LCKC) was formed to fill these needs.

LCKC abides by the guidelines of the American Kennel Club (AKC).  While we are concerned about the welfare of all dogs, our mission is to protect and advance the interests of purebred dogs.  We conduct sanctioned matches, dog shows, obedience trials and Canine Good Citizen Tests under the rules and regulations of AKC and encourage sportsmanlike competition at such events.

We also enjoy our dogs through such activities as visiting nursing homes and schools, marching in parades, and going on hikes.  We try to help educate the public on the breed of dog that is right for their family and responsible dog ownership, School children are taught how to approach a strange dog and how to properly care for their own dog.

In order to meet the growing needs of the Lake Cumberland dog community as well as to encourage responsible dog ownership, LCKC has grown to encompass all purebred and non-purebred dogs. Programs and events, wherever possible are open to all dogs and their human companions.
