2005 Holiday Match
Kennel Club Awards Best in Match to Local Dog

English Setter, Linwood Carobe Striptease (Penni), co-owned by Lois Sears and Jerry Willbrandt, and handled by Lois Sears won Best in Match under judge Patty Janzen at the December 4th Lake Cumberland Kennel Club's Holiday OB/B Match at the Center for Rural Development in Somerset. She easily won Best of Breed followed by Best in Sporting Group to take highest honors of the day, a win which included a crystal trophy, ribbons and a $100.00 cash prize which the excited handler/owner Sears generously donated back to the club. "She's simply a beautiful dog, well put together and clearly the winner today," observed Best in Match Judge Patty Janzen.

Winners in other groups during the day included:

Bichon Frise, Niko Taz Bolin owned and handled by Wilma Bolin (Non-sporting);

German Shepherd Dog, Dakota Von Hausmeyer owned and handled by Bryan Owens (Herding);

Pug, Frank, owned and handled by Dawn Pettus (Toy);

Soft Coated Wheaton Terrier, Cathal's Flighty Hannah Belle owned and handled by Chris Wilson (Terrier);

and Mastiff, Pegasus Triniti's Hearthside (Tye), owned and handled by Judy Whitney of Liberty,KY (Working).

There were no entries in Hounds.

In addition to the group winners, who were also Best of Breed in their respective classes, were Best of Breed winners

Rupert Bear Jones (English Cocker Spaniel) owned and handled by Jane Parker,

Kee West Patent Pending, (Welsh Pembroke Corgi) owned by Kimberly Maffit & Donna Stewart, handled by Kimberly Maffit

and Lacey's Rusty II (Golden Retriever) owned by Lacey Beckwith and Vickie Landell and handled by Lacey Beckwith.

Obedience competition was also held. Taking ribbons in Obedience were

Timothy, English Cocker Spaniel owned and handled by Jane Parker and

Bobby, Gordon Setter owned by Jean Janzen and handled by both Jane Parker and Jean Janzen. Janzen's Bobby accumulated the high score in obedience.

Competing in Junior Showmanship was 12 year old Lacey Beckwith of Somerset who won ribbons and prizes for best in that category. In this competition the handler, not the dog, are judged.

American Kennel Club's Canine Good Citizen testing was also offered to participants. Lori Woodward of Georgetown put dogs through their paces on ten different skills measuring obedience, training and temperament. English Cocker Spaniel, Timothy, owned and handled by Jane Parker, German Shepherd Dog, Dakota, owned and handled by Bryan Owens, and Diogee, Border Collie owned and handled by Angela Ferguson were awarded CGC.
